New Security System Utilizes GSM Mobile Phone Technology to Alert Boat Owners

Westborough, MA November 2006. SensorMetrics Inc, an environmental sensor company, today announced the release of a new product for the marine industry and boating consumer - a wireless boat security monitoring system called the "BoatNanny™".

The BoatNanny system was developed when a SensorMetrics engineer discovered there was no simple, effective, and affordable way to guard his unattended boat against fire, flooding, and theft. Since SensorMetrics specializes in the precise environmental monitoring in difficult industrial and military settings, the company set out to develop an innovative solution to the problem. The end result is the BoatNanny: a wireless security system that's easy to set up and use, at a price that is far more affordable than other, less-capable systems.

The BoatNanny monitors high water level, AC/DC power, cabin high/low temperature, and also detects smoke and fire. The system can also warn boat owners of a break-in while it's happening, and even let them hear live events and cabin sounds -- all through their mobile phone.

When an alarm is activated, the system will text message a mobile phone (up to 3 numbers) and/or send an email. BoatNanny has a built-in GSM cell phone, and utilizes any pre-paid SIM card from T-Mobile or Cingular ($.05/call), or the pre-installed SIM phone card from T-Mobile. There are no additional monthly fees or charges.

Unlike other boat security systems, BoatNanny is simple to install and program. Most installations take 15-30 minutes and can done by anyone. There's no need to install keypads or run power wires. The compact base unit plugs into any AC outlet or DC (cigarette) power, and is programmed by sending a text message to the unit. The BoatNanny has rechargeable batteries, and because of it's intelligent power management software, it consumes little power (typical 50mA), allowing its use on small vessels on moorings or at slips with no AC power.
