Boat Alarms and Boat Security Systems
How BoatNanny Works
The BoatNanny is a wireless monitoring / boat alarm system. The system consists of a Base Unit powered by AC or 12/24V DC, and a wireless Remote Unit that runs on 2 AA batteries. The Remote Unit easily mounts in the engine room where it monitors the engine room's high/low temperature and water level. The Remote Unit also has a contact relay switch that can be used to turn on/off a light, etc. There is no wiring between the Base Unit and the Remote Unit. All communication is done via a digital wireless link.
The Base Station, normally placed in the boat cabin, has a passive IR motion sensor, a temperature sensor, and an AC/DC voltage sensor to monitor the boat’s power status. A simple text message sent from any cell phone allows you to communicate with the Base Unit. The BoatNanny utilizes the GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) digital cellular network. This is the same type of technology that powers today’s cell phones.
It is as simple
as that.
How BoatNanny Uses the GSM Network
The BoatNanny relies on the GSM network because of its reputation for quality, service and reliability. The BoatNanny™ operates globally within the GSM network.™ To access the GSM cellular network, a SIM card (Subscriber Information or Identity Module) must be activated. The SIM card contains the subscriber’s account information, including the BoatNanny’s phone number. An account must be established with a GSM cellular carrier (AT&T, T-Mobile, etc.). Rates range from 10 – 15 cents per text message.
NOTE: For your convenience, The BoatNanny™staff will install a pre-activated SIM card. Provide up to three cellphone numbers that you want alarm messages to be sent to, and your BoatNanny™ will be ready to work right out of the box. Nothing to program or install, just plug it in! There is no fee for the programming/installation of the preactivated SIM card. This service is offered by Datablaze/T-Mobile and includes 300 text messages/month for
